Angola – Floods Leave 2 Dead, Hundreds of Homes Damaged


Heavy rain, floods and landslides have caused damage and fatalities in 3 provinces of Angola over the last few days.

Flooding and landslides struck areas of the province of Luanda in Angola from 25 November 2022. On 26 November Angola’s National Civil Protection and Fire Service reported 2 young people died and one person was seriously injured as a result. The flooding and rains also caused material damages. As many as 238 houses and buildings were flooded and 5 completely destroyed, displacing 245 families. A total of 1,215 people were affected.

The worst affected areas were the municipalities of Cazenga, Viana and Cacuaco. Some landslides were also reported in the area.

Severe weather had also affected other parts of the country. According to Angola Press Agency (ANGOP) 50 homes were damaged and several streets flooded in the the municipality of Huambo, Huambo Province, as a result of the rain on 27 November.

Thirteen houses collapsed in the municipality of Catumbela in Benguela province, as a result of the rainfall on 28 November.
