Angola: Over a Thousand Delegates for Interparliamentary Union

According to the event’s spokesperson, Idalina Valente, registration remains open until October 13, so the organizers expect the numbers to grow to 1,400 representatives from 87 countries and 82 parliaments.

The central theme of the IPU assembly will be the activity of parliaments for peace, justice and the formation of strong institutions, to encourage not only the exchange of experiences and good practices, but also the concertation of actions, Valente said.

The meeting’s program includes the election of the president of the IPU, as well as the meeting of the working group for the peaceful resolution of the war in Ukraine, with parliamentarians from that country and the Russian Federation.

There will also be meetings of the commission for Middle East affairs and with the legislative leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the Bahamas’ accession to the organization is expected.

The IPU was created in 1889 as a small group of parliamentarians, dedicated to promoting peace through diplomacy and dialogue, and currently brings together 179 member countries and 14 associate countries.

In its work, it promotes diplomacy and trains deputies around the world to promote peace, democracy and sustainable development.
