Kazakhstan and France are planning a genetic hub


PARIS. KAZINFORM – During his visit to France, Minister of Agriculture Yerbol Karashukeev took part in the International Exhibition of Agriculture (SIA). The Kazakh delegation, consisting of domestic agribusinessmen, arrived in Paris at the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in France, Kazinform reports with reference to the press service of the ministry.

Salon International de l’Agriculture is a visiting card of agrarian France, the exhibition covers almost all areas of the agro-industrial complex. Every year it is visited by about 700 thousand people from all over the world. At the SIA site, not only modern agricultural technologies and highly productive cattle breeds are demonstrated, but also the experience of leading specialists in the agricultural sector is exchanged.

On the sidelines of SIA-2023, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan held several meetings with French colleagues and heads of large European companies.

During the talks with the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty of France, Marc Fenault, they discussed building up bilateral partnership in the agricultural sector. Yerbol Karashukeev emphasized the interest of the Kazakh side in the development of livestock projects.

In particular, a project is being worked out to create a joint genetic center with the French company Evolution. The new enterprise will give impetus to the development of livestock genetics in Kazakhstan, the minister noted. He also spoke about the process of implementing a joint project of the Kazakh holding KazBioPharm with Boehringer Ingelheim to produce veterinary vaccines.

At a meeting with the Director General of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) Monique Eloi, the Minister voiced a number of problematic issues in the field of veterinary welfare in Kazakhstan. In particular, they discussed a project for the production of FMD vaccine in our country, as well as the security of trade in livestock products in the countries bordering Kazakhstan.

Yerbol Karashukeev also met with the heads of a number of large European companies, including the representative office of France in the world of Medef, the Federation of French Catering Enterprises (FICT), as well as the international dairy concern Lactalis. The Minister of Agriculture invited French partners to implement projects for the deep processing of grain, the production of baby food and other products in Kazakhstan.

France remains a major investor in the Kazakh economy and a key trading partner. The turnover of agricultural products between Kazakhstan and France in 2022 amounted to $64.1 million, an increase compared to 2021 was 17.4%.
