Against the backdrop of significant losses in the ranks of the occupiers and in anticipation of a counteroffensive by the Defense Forces, the military of the Russian Federation began to surrender more often, and last month a record number of appeals was recorded. Vitaly Matviyenko, a representative of the state project “I Want to Live”, created for the voluntary surrender of the Russian military into captivity, spoke about this on the air of the telethon.

“We record a surge of interest in our project. It is associated with the expected counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as with an increase in losses on the front of Russian troops and a deterioration in the moral and psychological state directly in the Russian army itself,” Matvienko said.

He stressed that the Russian military surrenders along the entire front line, and these operations take place every two days. The invaders surrender both one by one and in groups.

“As for the number of requests, in March we recorded essentially a record – more than 3,000 requests, which is twice as many as in 2022. In October and December 2022, we recorded an average of 1,400-1,500 requests per month. In January-March, the number increased up to 2500,” said Matvienko.

He also stressed that the occupiers are surrendering along with their equipment, and some samples of “interesting” Russian heavy armored vehicles are already working against the Russian army at the front.

  • At the end of February, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Budanov, reported that there were more people in Russian captivity than in Ukrainian captivity, but about 40% of those held by the Russians were civilians.
  • The Ukrainian side does not announce specific figures on the number of people in captivity of the Russian Federation
